Why Should you choose Firetoys Aerial Silks?

NON-SLIP AND DURABLE

Firetoys own Aerial Silks are of a high quality, professional standard and made from a durable, ladder resistant fabric.

The material's non-slip textured finish provides more grip than other Aerial Silks but still retains a sheen under stage lights.

The 150cm wide, 75 denier 100% polyester fabric creates a chunky grip. The fabric's durability makes it very well suited to studios where it will get a lot of use.

BOUNCE AND STRETCH

These medium stretch silks are ideal for more advanced moves where some bounce is beneficial to cushion impacts from drops.

Medium-stretch silks require more energy to climb than our low-stretch Prodigy Aerial Silks, making them slightly less appealing to absolute beginners.

Please note the stretch will reduce a little over time.

rigging options

An aerial hook (sold separately) is required to hang this silk. Please use ONLY the Prodigy Aerial Silks Hook or the Prodigy Elevate - Figure 8 for Aerial Silks to connect to the silk directly.

If you're looking for something unique, you can use 2x Aerial Silks and a Prodigy Elevate - Figure 8 to create amazing dual colour aerial silks! Check out how to prepare this safely and securely here.

Video guides for choosing and rigging your silks

Confused about which silks to choose or how to rig them? Don't worry!

We've partnered with Circus Safety & Rigging to create these fantastic videos.

Mark Gibson from Aerial Edge, Glasgow’s Circus School, and Catherine Knowles, from Community Circus Paisley, will share their knowledge with you, and if you need to know anything else - we're here to help you too!

IMPORTANT NOTE…

Everything above assumes you have a suitable and safe rigging point, like a professionally installed rigging point or a reputable and rated freestanding rig. Not every home/studio will be the same.

If you haven’t established a safe rigging point, please do this first with the help of a structural engineer/experienced rigger/professional familiar with what you're hanging and where you're hanging it. You can find more information on how to install at home here and general aerial safety here.

These silks are listed as the entire length of the cut fabric, but to use as silks will need folding in half and tying to a Prodigy Aerial Silks Hook or figure 8 (sold separately). This knot usually takes up about 0.5m of the fabric, and you will also want some fabric left at floor level to allow slack for wraps.

Choose a length of silk that is double the height of the area/rig you are using plus 2 metres. The most popular length is 16m and this is about the minimum needed to perform drops as it will give you roughly 7m of silk between the anchor and floor.

For a low ceiling height (4m and below, for example), you may want to consider a longer length of fabric to give you more tail. You will run out of tail quickly when practicing wraps with a low ceiling height.

Slack Drops

All Aerial fabrics are prone to reaching high temperatures during long or high energy slack drops, this can result in small melted patches, and even holes. These holes are caused by the friction of the fabric rubbing against itself and the performer during high speed movement. Nylon and low stretch fabrics are more susceptible, so the stretchy polyester of the Firetoys Silks is slightly less prone to this phenomenon. However, you should always take care when practicing slack drops, and be aware of the high amount of friction you can generate during these drops.

If you regularly perform slack drops, you will need to inspect the full length of your fabric regularly, and the fabric will need replacing more often
